"Equal Means Equal" Documentary
A good friend just posted on fb the link to an important film, Equal Means Equal, a documentary about women's status and condition here in America. The documentary is wonderful and chilling, the of women is not good. http://equalmeansequal.com/trailer/
In 1978, I was Executive Director of the New York City Chapter of the National Organization for Women and helped organize the 1978 Equal Rights Amendment March and Rally. Fifty five buses from NYC. Thousands of women and men gathered in Washington to claim our equality. Representatives from three states voted that amendment down: My birth state Missouri, my growing up "home" state North Carolina and Florida. THREE states denied millions of women their full citizenship and rights under the law. And the fall out from that denial is felt still today. Equal Means Equal points out how. I plan to order this film for my college.
The amendment is simple: www.equalrightsamendment.org/overview.htmSection 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex. Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
